High School Department Celebrates UN with a Pageant

A United Nations (UN) Day program for the High School Department was held at the GSCS Elementary quadrangle on October 25 to celebrate the UN Day and to honor the friendship, alliance, and unity of the countries all over the world.

The contestants of the UN Pageant coming from different grade levels wore national costumes that symbolized or were known for the country they were representing. They competed with beauty, brains, and talents. The hosts of this event were Ms. Marife Canaco and Mr. Jeramel Balleras, while the judges of the contest were Ms. Charismae Almarez, a contestant of Miss Philippines 2017, Mr. Christopher Villadolid, the Founder and President of Tantra Tagak Martial Arts, and Ms. Marie Tonie Sampan, the Class Valedictorian of Batch 2015 at GSCS and Miss Teen Red Cross 2014 First Runner-Up.

The program started off with an opening prayer by Rev. Ricardo Bernardino, followed by the National Anthem led by Mrs. Melody Alhambra. Afterwards, Mrs. Delna Moralita gave an opening speech. Then, the judges and contestants were introduced and the contest criteria were explained.

The competition began with the talent portion in which contestants showcased their talents by dancing or singing. The Da Capo Redeemer performed a special number with the Christian Remix of O.M.G. by Usher. Then, the contestants displayed their National costumes. It was then followed by the Question and Answer portion where the contestants randomly chose their questions. It was a joyous moment for everybody watching because some of the contestants answered humorously while some responded confidently, which charmed the crowd.

As soon as the competition ended, the awarding ceremony began. The winners of the AP Week competitions were first announced then the much-awaited awarding for the United Nations pageant followed. Each award was given to one male and one female candidate. The winners of the Best in Costume were Mr. and Ms. Panama, Carlos Gabriel Cruz and Elisha Janzy Aseoche, both from Grade 7. As for the Best in Talent award, Ezekiel Custodio (Grade 12), representing Greece, and Justine Mae Lim (Grade 8), representing India, were the winners. There was also an award given to the contestants with the most “hearts” reaction on their picture, which was posted on the Official Facebook Page of GSCS, a few days before the pageant. It was known as the “People’s Choice Award.” The ones who bagged the said award were Mr. England, Arsenio James Noel (Grade 10) and Ms. Greece, Daniela Zerrudo (Grade 12). And most importantly, Mr. Greece, Ezekiel Custodio of Grade 12, and Ms. England, Alessandra Sagun of Grade 10, won the title of GSCS Mr. and Ms. United Nations 2017.

The program closed with a prayer led by Rev. Ricardo Bernardino.
