GSCS Marks 117th Year of Philippine Independence

Together with the whole country, GSCS celebrated the 117th Philippine Independence Day through showcasing of different talents in connection with the theme, “Tagumpay sa Pagbabagong Nasimulan, Abot Kamay na ng Bayan,” at the school quadrangle, June 16.

The opening remarks was given by Mrs. Evelyn Obien, assistant principal of GSCS, which emphasized the importance of valuing freedom.

The first batch to perform their special numbers were the selected pupils from Pre-School and Grades One and Two who presented different folk dances. They were trained by Mrs. Eunice Liwanag and Mrs. Lorena Sabulao; and Mrs. Emelda Amit and Ms. Marjorie Galsim respectively.

This was followed by poem recitations by Mikka Shiela Aurelio of Grade Three – Genesis; and Jan Andrei Bunanig and Franz Del Rosario of Grade 10 – Matthew, delivering “Sa Aking Mga Kababata” by the Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal.

Grade 4 pupils, trained by Ms. Mariz Garfil, delivered the next presentation which was an acrostic that spelled the letters of the word KALAYAAN.

After this, the Da Capo Redeemer Dance Troupe (DCR) interpreted “Isang Dugo, Isang Lahi, Isang Musika” through a dance. DCR was led by Mrs. Zarina Daya and Mr. John Paul Oliver.
A song number was given by Ronald Gabriel of Grade Three – Genesis. He sang the song “Tagumpay Nating Lahat.”

Another dance interpretation was performed by selected Grade Five pupils who were trained by Mrs. Portia Morin and Ms. Christine Joy Andrade.

Towards the end of the program Ms. Alex Ramos sang to the tune of “Kapayapaan” accompanied by Mr. Edward Allan San Pedro. The successful event ended with a prayer led by Ptr. Emily Gabule. The program was hosted by Ms. Ruthlove Tresvalles and Mr. Francis Gepolane.
